Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

NY CLS general obligations law 11-105 questions?

I am 20 years old and my best friend that is the same age as me came down to NY to visit me in late May 2009. We have never done anything wrong ever, (drank, speeding tickets, stole...etc)...We are very good girls, but we were joking around in JC Penneys one day and we made a stupid stupid decision and shoplifted some shirts from the Juniors department. We went into the dressing room with like ten shirts each and came out with like 6 each. My friend dropped her purse and a shirt came out so she stuck it back in her purse. I guess one employee saw us and told security, they then took us down to the security office and counted the items and they had ALL been on sale at that time but they rung them up all at full price. The amount I had taken amounted to $102 at the ful price of the 3 shirts.

All they told us in the security office was that we were going to get a SUMMONS TICKET, then I got a letter saying that they were filing a civil suit against me( my friend also got one). I have a court date set for July 12th at 930am, and Im going to plead guilty, cause Im not gonna lie about it theres no point.

The letter says that I am supposed to pay $775.00 to them in 10 days of the letter. What am I to do? How do I go about fixing this?
