Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

ny cls general obligations law 11-105

i was ticketed for petit larceny by a walmart store.. i shopped there and used the self checkout. i spent about $95 in the store and used the self checkout . i had numerous problem with the machine during my checkout. i came home from the store and the sheffifs dept came to my house about 4 hrs later and told me that i store some clothing items. i of course showed them my receipt and they asked me what clothing item i bought. to my surprise 2 items were not on my receipt. out of the $95 worth of stuff i bought a pair of $10 shorts and a $3.50 tank top were not on the receipt. the officer told me that walmart doesn't even prosecute for under $25 but still wrote me an appearance ticket. i gave the officer the merchandie and made a statement that it was a mistake . i am still going to court and talking to the da to see if we can get the charges dropped. i am 35 yrs old and not a criminal. but now i have a law office sending me letters for money... the fisrt one they wanted $100 and now they say i need to pay them $350...i don't know what to do..i called them and they are very rude on the phon and uncooperative. i don't think i should have to pay them being that i haven't been convicted..they got the merchandise and not my fault?

My personal opinion is that you should ignore the letters and calls and it will probably go away. This is not legal advice, just my opinion. They're not likely to pay the expense of going after you.

We charge $3000 and up to fight a petit larceny case.
