Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
NY Resident Summoned to NJ Court
Case of Mistaken Identity.
I live in NY and had my wallet stolen 2 years ago. I Never filed a police report, just had a new lic. issued by DMV a few days later.
Someone recently used my stolen license to check into a New Jersey hotel room and wrecked the room.
The hotel is seeking $375 in damages from me based upon my stolen license.
I was just summoned to appear in Neptune NJ Municipal Court to answer this summons of property damage or risk being arrested.
Does a civil court in NJ have this reach to a NY resident?
