You may be referring to an 18B lawyer which is a free attorney provided by the state (like legal aid) usually at the time of arraignment. If you can afford a private attorney it could greatly increase the chance of lowering the charges. We have substantial experience handling these types of cases and reasonable fees, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination. You are welcome to contact us for a free consultation.

You are referring to an 18B lawyer who would be assigned by the court in cases of conflicts, usually where there are co-defendants or you make a claim against your legal aid lawyer if he is not doing a competent job. Generally, you cannot choose to have the court appoint an 18B lawyer.
