Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
outstanding warrants
if my boyfriend was arrested in new
york for shop lifting ( the item was
valued at 40 dollars) and he misses
his court date because he lives in
massachusetts what is his
punishment? if he is stopped in a
different state can he be sent to new
york or arrested on the spot?

He could be arrested on the spot and held in jail until New York informs the new state about whether they want to come get him and bring him back to New York. For a matter this small, New York almost certainly would not send someone to retrieve him, but your boyfriend could potentially end up staying in jail for a long time (i.e., more than just a couple of days) while the matter is getting resolved.
