Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Parental responsibility?
Minor, 15 thru 16 commits numerous acts which he/she is charged for. All combined and he/she plead to 1 count of a lightweight felony...Youthful Offender staus is an option for the Judge. Not 1st time offenses for youth. Locked up in Juvenile facility 1X prior. H/She is considering taking flight. Has turned 18 waiting for sentencing, (already plead guilty.) If He/She runs, what would parents responsibility be for child. Parents are not ''allowing'' Him/Her to run but stupid kids don't often get smart too fast. He/She is released under supervision (RUS) pending sentencing. Parents might be assumed to be finacially responsible for any restitution but what about any criminal charges. This matter is before a County Court. Thank you.

Re: Parental responsibility?
The parents cannot be charged as long as they are not assisting the young man in fleeing and avoiding prosecution. Both the parents and the young man appear to have serious issues.
