Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Partner rerouted my e-mail

My partner and I are disolving our business together. The process has been ugly. I intend to pursue this business (type setting/book distribution) by myself. During this breakup my partner without my knowledge or consent rerouted emails that were to be directed to my own personal account. I pay for that account out of my own personal money. I only discovered the theft because I wasn't receiving my emails. I contacted my internet provider and was told that my emails had been officially redirected to his account. My partner was able to access my account and redirect the emails intended to go to my email address. Can you tell me what federal, state and city laws have been broken?

Re: Partner rerouted my e-mail

This is an interesting problem.

While he has an interest in many of the emails (those that relate to the business), his re-routing represents a misrepresentation to the email provider.

There are criminal laws, but the DA will not be interested in thisd case because he will state: (1) he thought he was getting duplicates of the emails and not preventing you from getting emails and (2) he will claim that he has a property interest in many of the emails because of the business.

It is the misrepresentation to the email provider that may give you the most traction in this. make an appointment with the local FBI office and report the event. If they seem uninterested, get back to me and I will discuss the matter further with you.
