past possession conviction

I was convicted in 1995 in NY of possession of or use of a controlled substance. i am now applying to teach- my fingerprints show two felonies from NY-

i am surprised- we paid the fine and left- i have passed a MI background check- my options are to appeal to the fingerprint board or contact NY and

try to expunge??? will this ever leave my record??

will i be able to teach??thanks ek

It appears you have separate issues: are

there really two felony convictions and

is the state still using your fingerprints

properly.

This requires knowledge as to what the

actual conviction was for in 1995. If

this was indeed a felony, it will remain

with your record for life. If it is

something less (misdemeanor or violation), the answer may be different.

If the report is correct and does not need

to be changed, you may also be able to

apply to the Court where convicted for

a Certificate of Relief from Disabilities

for Employment. This could satisfy the

licensing board.
