Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Can a person be convicted of petit larceny without any merchandise being found by the store security? They called the police. Police confirmed that there was no property found.. Store security pressed charges anyway.

Yes, it is possible to be convicted of a larceny without having the property on you. An example would be a theft of money where the actual money can't be identified as coming from any one person. With that being said it does present a more difficult case to prove than if the person was found in possession of the property
