Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
if a person if falsely accused of stealing merchandise from a store etc and later found not guilty does the merchandise in question return to the person? if not what happens to it

If the person who was accused claims ownership of the merchandise it should be returned. Contact store and threaten to hire a lawyer and sue for false arrest if in fact there was a false arrest. I am sure they would return the merchandise rather than face a civil suit.
