Re: personal appearance needed for shoplifting charge?
You should ALWAYS appear at every ourt date, unless you are specifically excused by the judge from appearing. This is a serious charge, and should be treated as such.

Re: personal appearance needed for shoplifting charge?
Failure to appear in court without advanced permission from the judge can and quite often in criminal cases does result in a bench warrant being issued. What this means is the warrant squad will come and get you and bring you in wearing handcuffs. Then the judge may be inclined to set bail and you will have to stay in jail pending a final disposition of your case if you can not make the new bail. Furthermore, if you are out on the warrant for more than a set period of time the prosecutor can bring bail jumping charges against you. You should appear at every court date unless you receive permission from the judge not to. Please feel free to contact my office if we can be of assistance in this matter.
