Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

petity larceny

My friend and I were arrested for petity larceny last week.

We had about $65 worth of merchandise. I had only $12 worth

and she had the remainder. I am 17 years old and she is 18.

We have an appearance ticket for the 27th of April. I was

wondering if I need a parent to acompany me to court, or if

there is any other way to go about doing this.I was also

wondering if it made a diffeence that the cop that arrested

us never told us our miranda rights, and I thought if you

were arrested and you were under the age of 18 your parents

had to be notified. Well thank you for reading this, and any

advice that you can give me will be greatly ap

Re: petity larceny

Being over the age of 16 your parent does not have to be with you in court nor is the parent required to be present at the arrest process. With regard to Miranda and your right's thereunder ,if you made an involuntary or coerced confession, then with proper legal representation that confession should be suppressed. For more info you may call my office @718-834-0087.
