Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Petty Larceny
I was charged with shoplifting, the item was about 48 dollars, they mailed me a letter saying if I pay them restitution that the civil case will be dropped, now should I pay that?, and my other question is, what do I have to do so I don't go to jail, this is the first time I have ever been in trouble with the law. any help would be greatly appreciated, im very nervous and scared, thanks in advance

I hesitate to offer specific advise on the internet, but you should contact a capable criminal defense attorney ASAP.Do not do anything until you speak with said attorney. A good attorney should be able to help you avoid jail-time as well as help in getting a result without you getting a criminal conviction. I handle matters such as yours and would be happy to set up a consultation. Please contact my office @7188340087.
Re: Petty Larceny
on a case like this it is highly unlikely that you will face any jail time at all, first offense and a minor amount will usually be treated rather lightly, your most pressing concern here should actually be ensuring you dont come out of this with a criminal record - which is also a possibility.
