Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Pistol Permit
I have a question regarding youthful offender adjudication. I was arrested and adjudicated youthful offender on an assault charge and was on probation for a year. That was 7 years ago...I'm planning on applying for a pistol permit to seek better employment. Now on the Pistol Permit application do I mention my youthful offender arrest and adjudication. I've asked a couple of Police officers for advice and they had said not to put it on the application when others have said that I have to put it on my application because they will find it when they run my prints. Now I dont understand why I would have to mention my youthful offender adjudication when the point of it is to give the youth a second chance. Does anyone know whether or not I disclose this on my application.

Re: Pistol Permit
Every jurisdiction is different.
Go to your local police precinct and ask them to run you and your prints. The pistol permit processor will do the same thing. What the search turns up, disclose. What it does not, has been sealed and need not be disclosed.
