Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

police bideo survellince

is it legal for the nyc police dept to place hidden video cameras inside an apartment to operate a sting? i understand on the streets because it is public property. In someone's home would it be a violation of the ny state bill of rights, article 1, #12?

Re: police bideo survellince

The police can not just place a camera in a person's home. However, they can go to a judge and apply for a warrant to get permission to do so. Please feel free to contact my office if we can be of any assistance in this matter.

There may be certain circumstances under which the police may take this type of action, but there are many arguments that could be potentially mde as to why such an action was illegal on the part of the police, depending on the facts of the case.
