Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Can police call a person vulgar names.

Can police officers taunt a person in their custody by calling them vulgar names such as b*tch, sl*t, and c*nt, along with various other vulgar names?

Re: Can police call a person vulgar names.

Obviously, they 'can' and stopping them is difficult but they are not permitted to do this (similarly, they 'can' beat and sodomize prisoners because they have physical control and power over them even though this is not allowed). If you have been the subject of discrimination based on your GENDER (being called a bitch, slut, c-word, etc.) then I recommend you find an attorney or legal services agency to file a suit in Federal Court. Unless people sue and bring this behavior to light, it will continue and more people will be victimized.

Best of luck!
