Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Prank calls / text messaging

I made a numer of prank calls to an ex (just hangups) and sent a few annonymous text messages as well. She is going to the police to file a complaint and press charges. How much trouble am I looking at? Will I be held in jail or booked and released? They were no threatening in any way

That is aggravated harassment. It is an A misdemeanor. Further it carries up to 1 year a $1000.00 fine and it is a crime.

Get to a lawyer right away. If the cops come and want to speak to you about it, SHUT UP and refuse to speak to them until a lawyer is either retained or appointed. In fact if you are smart you will get to an attorney now, have him call your ex, see if he can work it out without police interference or arrange your surrender so you don't say something stupid and/or incrimatory to the cops.
