Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Probability for Prosecutition

I am a person of interest in a criminal case of which I had no knowledge. I performed one consulting job over a seven week period from 11/03-1/04. I was told that I'd receive a contract for the work and never did. Because of this, I was not sure that I'd be paid for the work. I was unemployed and I continued to focus on my job search working 50-60 hours / week commuting back and forth to Rochester, NY. I received and deposited payment for the research, analysis and report that I wrote. In 4/05, when I was filing my 2004 taxes, I found the invoice for the work and meant to contact my Accountant. I never received a W-2 or a 1099. In May of 2005, other individuals were indicted for fraud and money laundering. I immediantly contacted my Accountant and amended the tax returns and make restitution with Unemployment. Unemployment had me sign a statment and considered it ''willfull misrepresentation.'' No one from the FBI has made contact with me. I am concerned that my actions will become public and / or I will be prosecuted. Am I concerned for nothing or should I seek legal counsel? The case will most likely go to trial within the next year.

Re: Probability for Prosecutition

Inasmuch as you have not been contacted by any law enforcement agency, your question is premature. If I were you I would be prepared if contacted by having available all the information necessary and the phone # of a competent criminal defense attorney. It is my belief that since you corrected the situation this negated the criminal element of intent. You may at any time feel free to contact my office @ 7188340087.
