Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Probation

If you are placed on probation in New York State, are you able to leave the state to go on vacation? Is this something that could be approved by probation officer or is it not allowed at all?

Re: Probation

Not all probationers are assigned a probation officer. If you are one of those and not a 'kiosk reportee', then you are permitted to leave the state, but it is best to communicate with your po.

This is not really a legal question. It is a regulation or rule. trust your po, not the lawyers on this one.

Re: Probation

I respectfully disagree with the earlier post. Most probation departments will limit your travel to the County at the begining of the probation, even if you only report to an electronic check in devise. As your time on probation passes, travel restrictions usually are broadened. Many probation officers will work with you regarding vacation plans - this depends, in part, on what you are on probation for. In addition, if need be, you can always take the issue to the Judge.
