Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

procedures in a criminal court case

Hello:

In a criminal court case, what are the courtroom procedures? For example, I know that the prosection is the first to give opening arguments, and then the defense. But what about the calling of witnesses and experts to testify? Who goes first, the prosection or the defense? And when does each side get to cross-examine?

Re: procedures in a criminal court case

You probably mean procedures during trial. Prosecution presents its case first. The call witnesses and present evidence. Defense had the opportunity to cross-examine those witnesses and contest the evidence. After the prosecution rests, the defense can, but not mandated, present its case, should the counsel for the defense finds it necessary.
