It is certainly possible. You would need to retain an attorney, prepare an authorization allowing representation in your absence and describing the reason you can not appear personally.The affadavit should contain a statement that as an out of town student it is difficult and expensive to return to N.Y. for the appearance and the attorney has the authorization to resolve the matter.
