Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
I purchased a vehicle from a buy here pay here lot in the state of NY in August of 2009. My family and I moved to the state of FL in late August. Since then I have run out of money to pay for the van. The owner of the lot is going to my fathers house and calling my old jobs telling them that he is going to have me arrested for "grand theft auto" and that he is going to press charges on me. Can he do this? I thought that the dealership could repo the van then take me to civil court for the balance of what I owe. Im not sure what to do.
