Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Question about a career change, but have a felony.

I've been working with record labels on and off the past few years, but feel i may want to try something different. I had wanted to work in the cia, fbi, or dea as a back-up plan to music. They were the only areas that interested me. Within the last year, i got an E Felony for possession/intent to sell controlled substance. I recieved a civil disabilities certificate so the felony shouldn't be held against me, so they say. If i still want a government job, like the fbi, cia or dea, would i be ceompletely disqualified at this point? or do you know of any areas in which they hire people with a criminal background to help with the extra intelligence, or deep cover only an ex criminal can offer. i was arressted once, i made a mistake, but have a felony to show for it. any advice?

I have several friends in the fbi and several who have applied. i dont think there is any chance of them hiring a person with a felony. sorry.

Simply put--forget it. Besides being an attorney, I am ex-US Intelligence (NSA) and nobody is going to hire you with that kind of record. Besides, unless you have some kind of useful skill and appropriate background for intel work--even without the felony, you wouldn't get in. A certificate of relief from civil disabilites is not an automatic "get out of jail free" card, it eliminates only the mandatory exclusion, not the discretionary exclusion from certain jobs. Every body makes a mistake, don't make the mistake of running west looking for a sunrise. There are many things you can do with your record that are both legal and lucrative, and I wish you luck.
