Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

A Question

A friend of mine was accused of identity theft. police claims he bought $6000 worth of car parts from a store with a credit card. The police said that the auto parts were not signed for, the credit card was only swiped and then left with the auto parts. the store has no visual evidence that he was in the store and the employees have to identify my friend as the customer with the credit card. Could you give any advice on what to do? P.S be minded my friend does not know where the auto parts place is located and parts does not match his car.
