Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
This question is in relation to a story I am writing where the home owner is murdered in his home. I would like to know when after the crime scene is set up for this murder, how long does it stay a crime scene and should the roommates be requested to leave the home until the next of kin is contacted?

Hope this helps-- Once a crime scene is designated as such-- no unauthorized personnel may enter, b/c it would taint the crime scene. It would stay a crime scene until all the necessary tests, pics etc... were taken
