Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

What if I received a misdemeanor ticket for possession of marijuana while living in Florida a few months back, and now live in New York State and do not pay the ticket? The ticket is $675 and I cannot afford it. It is due August 14. If I do not pay it, they can issue a warrant for my arrest. Does that warrant ever go away after a period of time? What if I get pulled over/stopped in NY and they run my information?

The answer to your first question is yes, they will most likely issue a warrant for your arrest in Florida. You should apply to the court for an extension of the time to pay.

As for any action in New York, if the warrant is issued and you are arrested, you will most likely be held for Florida authorities to make a decision. Florida will not, usually send personnel to transport you back to Florida on a low level marijuana charge. If you do go back to Florida and are stopped for a traffic stop or any other interaction with the authorities, you will be arrested and additional charges will be applied.

It only gets worse, you might want to try to solve this now before it escalates.
