Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I recently applied with social services for food stamps. After being approved for food stamps i obtained a job soon after. I made a mistake in not telling my social worker that i had found a job and was working. I want to know what i have to explain to my social worker that it wasn't my intention to not provide my work information to her. I have never been on social services or received food stamps my entire life i understand i may have committed fraud but would like to explain to my social worker that i made a bad mistake and am not trying to get in trouble even though i may have broken the law. Is there any advice that you can help me with for this problem. Is there anything i should explain to her when i talk to her to explain my mistake?

Please realize that you may be admitting a crime. You should contact a lawyer for the specific course you need to take. Also, you should be prepared to reimburse any monies you may not have been entitled to. Good Luck

It all depends on how long ago you got the job and the value of the government services you received. If fairly recent and it involves a small amount, probably you would only be required to pay back the benefits you received. Give this information to a lawyer.
