Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I recieved a summons for being in a park after it was closed in Brooklyn, New York. What are the possible charges and punishments for this? Is it something I would have to include in my graduate school applications and will it show up on background checks? What is the best way to try to stop my record from being tainted?

All such charges are misdemeanors under the Parks Rues. It appears you have received a DAT. You should hire an attorney to make sure your rights are protected. Do not do this alone, you don't want to end up with a criminal record for a minor infraction. For any criminal case in New York, no matter how minor, I strongly suggest to everybody to hire their own private lawyer.

Answer the summons and request an ACD. If it is granted it will be the same as a dismissal. If it is turned down, then you need to hire a lawyer. Since you were not fingerprinted, probably no one will find out about the arrest.
