what if a person is at poor & gets convicted of 2 misdemeanors.Does he have to pay a fine & do time?My husband already did 105 days in jail and then the judge let him out &ordered a 1000 fine.what if we can't pay it?

YOu have a right to an Indigency hearing. Have your lawyer request one. It is a violation of both the Federal and the NY State Constitution to jail someone who cannot afford to pay a fine. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one should be available through the court. Good luck
