I currently have a roommate who is being extremely verbally abusive, I have several of these incidents tape recorded as evidence. Is it possible to have him charged with domestic violence?

It would seem unlikely as domestic violence generally refers to those in a familial relationship. If this is just someone you are sharing an apartment with and the abuse is verbal, the police may not charge that. However, if you feel you are in some kind of physical danger you should contact the police right away.
