Can the police enter someones home and make an arrest based on a warrant issued for previous tenants? Will the search warrant be considered effective if the home was converted into an illegal two family home but one of the families were new residents?

You have a potentially very valid defense. Ensure you have a good
Attorney to put the argument together for you and it may hold up.

You may have a potential motion to suppress the evidence obtained , this is a very specific factual issue. I suggest that you retain a competent criminal defense attorney to help analyze this further. If the evidence is suppressed then there is no issue for trial, therefore you should not let economics be an issue. You need a very capable attorney not a reasonably priced one ,although you might find one who satisfies both criteria. You may contact my office to set up a consultation.
