Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
My son was arrested as a minor, he was told as long as he did not get in trouble when he turned 18 his file would be sealed. He is applying for police and corrections officer in the state of New York. When asked if he was ever arrested or finger printed what should his answer be. He is now 20 and has never been in trouble since.

He needs to be honest because the police will see the records as applying to be a Police Officer is an exception to the sealing rule.

He must say what happened. Even if a matter is sealed, it is not sealed for purposes of applying for law enforcement jobs or applying for a gun permit.
