Son Arrested Misdemeanor of the 4th and 5th degree

My son was diving in a car belonging to a person he just met through a friend who was also in the car which was stopped V&T stop and it had a stolen credit card and a radar detector in it and they were charged. I have hired an attorny who is asking for a retainer of $500. Will we get this back at the end of the preliminary hearing? The arrainment was done during the arrest and bail was set for $2400. My son got out after 3 days by the pre trial services. What will the possible out come of this crime be? This is my sons first offense.

Your son should run these questions by his attorney first. The retainer is a deposit on the fees that his lawyer charges for representing your son. Your son may have a good civil lawsuit against whoever possessed the radar detector and stolen credit card.
