right to speedy trial

how long does the prosecution have to take a case to trial my case has been going on for 14 months.my lawyer will not ask that the time be held against the prosecution at my or the judges urging.iasked him to file a motion for a speedy trial 8 months ago. i feel that he is not handling this case with my best interest in mind i feel i am being railroaded by his lack of action he is giving the prosecution an unfair advantage.

You should ask for a new lawyer or hire one if you have the money. Remember hiring a criminal defese attorney is not a bargain hunting enterprise. Good counsel costs money.

Additionally although you have amassed a lot of time since your arrest, if your lawyer asked for time, filed motions, or consented to the people's adjournments, you cannot get the case dismissed.
