What legal action can a corporate take against a former employee who deletes file from company data base?

The corporation may bring a civil suit for actual damages as a result of the deleted file but it can also press criminal charges and have the employee arrested. It can do either or both.

Criminal Mischief may work.
How did he get access to the files?
And, you should be contacting the
district attorney's office because
there is no prosecution without them
