Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Theft Of Service
I know of an individual who has placed his heating bill in his 9 year old son's name. This person owes a lot of money for his heating bill. What could happen to him if he is turned in to the company from which he is ''stealing'' heat from?

Re: Theft Of Service
Not only is this theft of services, it is ordinary larceny and if the bills total more than $1,000, the person could be charged with grand larceny, a felony.
Re: Theft Of Service
That is what the misdemeanor is
called - theft of services, punishable
by fine and/or imprisonment up to one
year
This would not, in all likelihood,
rise to the occasion of fraud or
forgery but, depending on how
the service was turned on, it could
This brings prison into play, and
increases the stakes to up to 4 years
