Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I got a ticket for disorderly conduct yesterday when I got stopped on my bike. I was angry, acted completely out of line and obviously made the situation worse by getting upset. I have already drafted a letter of apology to the officer, but am worried that if I deliver it, it may have negative repercussions for me when I appear in court. This is my first and only offense, and I am hoping it might be reduced to a traffic violation. I have no problem paying restitution and doing community service, but I am worried about having a misdemeanor or similar offense on my record. I really do feel poorly about the way I handled the situation. Should I send this letter of apology now or after my court date? Is there a chance that the officer will make an appearance in court, and that a letter might help the situation? Do I need to consult a lawyer? Thank you.

disorderly conduct is a violation of law in new york and is not classified as a misdemeanor or any other crime. You will probably be offered an ACD, which is a delayed dismissal. Do not send the letter. Go to court alone the first time and if an ACD is offered you should take it. There are no fines involved ut the court may order a couple of days community service.

Do not send the letter to the P.O..I handle matters such as yours on a regular basis and in almost every instance I can get the charge either dismissed ,or get the defendant an ACD. There are usually no fines nor community service involved. You may contact my office @7188340087 for a free phone consultation.

You should not expect jail time, but it would be highly recommended to have an experienced lawyer with you defending you and preserving your rights in court. It would also greatly increase the chance of lowering the charges or possible dismissal. We have substantial experience handling these types of cases and reasonable fees, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination.
