Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Ticket for HOV only entrance to Central Park

I received a ticket for entering a HOV only entrance in Central Partk (72nd St) during morning rush hour. I did not see the HOV sign and my ticket says ''failure to comply with sign. I do not understand though, why it is considered a criminial violation and why I have to appear in person in court ?? What does this mean as far as impacting points etc. What type of fine is this? and why is it considered a criminal violation. Pleading not guilty requires appearing twice in person.... which is a major hassle as once is bad enough. I have 48 hours to decide if I should plead not guilty. From the angle that I was approaching the park with traffic, I could not see the sign until I entered the park... and then it was too late as there was a cop pulling cars over. Any advice / info would be appreciated.

If you decide to fight this charge, you should film the approach you took and see how it appears on film. That is, will the film convince a judge you had no chance to see the sign?

You can appear by attorney for this offense in either criminal court or traffic violations bureau depending what venue obtained jurisdiction as per the ticket. Please contact my office @7188340087 for a free phone consultation.I handle matters such as yours on a daily basis. From your description I can not determine whether this is a criminal offense or a motor vehicle violation, however through the phone conversation,we can formulate a strategy for either one.
