Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Underage + open container
My friends and I were issued summonses for drinking in the street (but not for underage drinking). The cops said we had to go to the court and pay a 25 dollar fine, but the date they gave us is a school day. I've seen the plea-guilty-by-mail form, but that requires a check, which as a minor I cant give. Is there any way to not have to go to court? If not, is there any way to go to court early, or do we have to appear on that date? Also, what is the process at the courthouse?
