Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Financial Aid

Is it true that a UPM charge will preclude me from receiving any financial aid? I'm enternig college next semester and I absolutely need some financial aid. If I plead not guilty but I'm found guilty, will I still be ineligible?

I went through a police checkpoint where my car was searched and less than 1/8oz of marijuana was found.

What can I do to ensure that I still have financial aid available? Thanks.

Your concern should be focused on your criminal record as it effects your entire life . . . not just financial aid (although that may be your immediate concern). I have never heard that a conviction of this nature automatically disqualifies you for financial aid. You should be able to get an ACOD (adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal) this will dismiss the charge after 6 months and seal the record. Contact me if you need help

You will in fact be denied Financial aid backed by the federal government for one year. Though there have been bills to change the rule, they die in committee. You can contact Congressman Barney Frank to see if he is still sponsoring the legislation. Meanwhile get a really good lawyer. He will be able to help you. The expense will be more than well worth it.
