Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Urinating in public

About 2 years, I received a ticket in New York city for urinating in public. The officer said that the court would ''probably throw it out'' but that it would ''turn into a warrant if I didn't show up.'' My record was clean, and I was merely issued a ticket and let go. Naturally, I didn't make the court appearance. About 7 months ago, I had my driver's license run through by a Florida police office. I was jogging in a bad area at night, and voluntarily surrendered my license to the officer. It ''seemed'' that my record was clean; the dispatcher said there nothing on it, and the officer simply ended up giving me a ride home. Is it safe to assume that my record is clean, or might there be some city-wide, minor warrant lurking about that I don't know about? When the urinating incident occured, the officer took my name and address, so I would assume that if I were in trouble, had fines to pay, outstanding warrant, etc. I would get something in the mail from the NY justice system, and to date, I haven't. Also, I am currently applying for a library position, and am worried that something like this, however minor, might show up on a background check. Please provide a thorough answer!

Re: Urinating in public

You are being negligent with your life by thinking that the court has disposed of the case which you have chosen to ignore. Eventually, the cost will much more than your having heeded the officer's advice and going to court to take care of the summons.
