Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

verdict in a criminal case

Hello

I'm doing research, and would like to know what the jury foreman says when reading a verdict. For example, is it something like: 'We the jury, in the above titled action, case 373, the people versus Lee Jones, count one, find the defendant...

Is that what is spoken by the jury foreman?

Re: verdict in a criminal case

No, that is not what any jury foreperson has stated when giving the verdict in any trial I have conducted. In my trials, the court clerk asks if there is a verdict, then the CLERK asks, On the first count of the indictment, ........[states the charge], how do you find? Or, How do you find, guilty or not guilty?

Then, the foreperson will simply state Not guilty or Guilty.
