Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Violence

What can I do if I was assaulted by someone close to me but I have no evidence of the assault? Our relationship is such that I continued to see and speak with him after a night of abuse because I wasn't sure how to interpret the events. A part of me was scared, and magnanimous. Honestly, I don't expect him to hurt or threaten me again, but I do believe that acts of violence should not go unpunished. What can I do?

Re: Violence

You can do many things. You can call the police and report the incident. You may also have a civil cause of action against the person. Only a lawyer, after investigating the incident, can determine if you have sufficient proof to pursue either or both approaches.

The above is for informational purposes only as there is no current attorney-client relationship.
