Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Voluntary Statement
Hello,
I gave a voluntary statement to my village Police Department regarding something that I had done wrong. They did not arrest me that day or give me an apperance ticket. Can they still charge me and if so how long do they have to charge me?

I always tell my clients - even the biggest fish in the sea wouldn't get caught if he didn't open his mouth.
They can still charge you with a crime. The statute of limitations varies with each state and with each crime. They can charge you right up to the expiration date of the crime.
A lawyer would be able to advise you when he finds out what the crime is.
