Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
While walking through Time Square, I felt someone reach into my pocket and remove my knife. I turned to see it was a police officer. He issued me a summons for "Carrying a Knife in Public View". The knife was clipped to the inside of my pocket with just the clip and the joint where the knife connects to the mount in view.
After looking at the law, I am wondering what I am really being charged with, and how I should plea. It looks to me as if the knife was legal to carry. I live in PA, and was just visiting, and a lot of people carry them here. I was even leaving it in view a little because here in PA you get in far more trouble for trying to CONCEAL a weapon.
How should I plea? Was I really in the wrong?

This sounds like an Administrative Code violation. You will probably be offered an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal (ACD) when you go to court, meaning the case will be dismissed in six months and the record sealed. You could probably fight the case and win but the result would be the same as an ACD, so it's not worth the expense.
