Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

old weapon possession charge

My boyfriend was arrested on a no license charge in suffolk county,he had a warrent still active from Queens from 2000,it a criminal possession of a loaded weapon charge.I know laws have changed now but I think 2000 law applies,what kind of time is reasonable?
