Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
About a week ago I was caught shoplifting fro $505 worth of merchandises. I have a court date in 4 weeks. They told me that I will only get a fine and no records. I am really scared and I am freaking out. I have a clean record. I would like some legal advice. Also, how much the fine will be? Thank you in advance.

If you are clean you should try to push for an ACOD ( an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal). In essence, a dismissal of your case in 6 months if you stay out of trouble.
From your post it appears that they may be talking about a plea to a violation ,which is not a crime, but still an offense. It may have some collateral consequences. Please feel free to contact the office if you have more specific questions.
You should not expect jail time, but it would be highly recommended to have an experienced lawyer with you defending you and preserving your rights in court. It would also greatly increase the chance of lowering the charges or possible dismissal. We have substantial experience handling these types of cases and reasonable fees, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination. I don't know who gave you this info. It may not be correct. You are presently facing criminal charges which potentially carry possible jail time, probation, fine and /or a criminal record. There are "plea-bargain"possibilities which may either reduce or eliminate those previously stated outcomes. You would be best served by retaining a competent criminal defense attorney. I handle matters such as yours on a daily basis with excellent results. You may contact my office @7188340087 for a consultation.
