Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Witness Account
A witness wants to give an account of an altercation. The defendant's lawyer contacts the witness, and gets the witness' account of the incident. The witness is asked by the district attorney to come into court to give his account of the incident.
The witness can't afford transportation. Can the defendent aid the witness with transportation (i.e. taxi fare)?

The DA will often send a police car to transpert the witness. In addition, there are no reules to prevent the defendant from assisting, but the DA should be informed of any arrangements before they are offered to the witness.
