Legal Question in Discrimination Law in New York
credit card
I went to my husbands local bank to cash a check he had wrote me as I had done before.I put the check and my drivers licence in container.I was told to come inside bring another form of Id and I had to be thumb printed which was fine. However when I went Inside when I gave them my licence and social security card they said I had to have a credit card.I dont have credit cards I am a homemaker.I had my husbands bank card, still they told me no credit card no money.I said to teller that I could not understand why they would not cash the check because I could go outside and get the money from ATM I just needed the check as a receipt. My question is Isnt it against the law to Deny services because of credit card status.I have not had credit cards since I was single.I feel like I was discrimanated against was I??

Re: credit card
It is illegal and a violation of your civil rights to be denied a credit card or other credit on the basis of your race or ethnic identity.
But it is not illegal to deny you services because you do not have credit or a credit card.
These are two very different forms of discrimination.
