Legal Question in Discrimination Law in New York

Freedom of Information Act

I live in NY state and a racists neighbor has put in some complaints with our town's Building Inspector. The inspector states that he doesn't have to give out the names of these neighbors. Does the FOIA apply in this case? Is there a way for me to obtain the list of complaints?

You can make a FOIL request but in all likelihood it will not matter. If your neighbor reported you factully to the building dept. and they found violations, then they are the ones bringing the charge not the neighbor. IF the complaint was inaccurate then if you have a lawsuit you may be able to get the information thru a subpeona
